Lauren Greenlief increases lead in Mid-Amateur division;
Taya Battistella holds lead in Mid-Master division
BURLINGTON, Ont. – The Margaret Todd Trophy will be remaining on the West Coast as Team British Columbia successfully defended the Inter-Provincial Team title to mark three straight championships at the Canadian Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship, presented by BDO at the Burlington Golf & Country Club in Burlington, Ont. on Thursday.
Team British Columbia was represented by Nonie Marler of Vancouver, B.C., Aram Choi of Surrey, B.C. and Veronica Ivy of Victoria, B.C. (shown L-R in the photo above - credit Mike Masaro/Golf Canada) who finished with a combined score of 5-over. This marks the second consecutive year that the trio has won the title at the Canadian Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship.
“Doing it back-to-back is fun especially out of province,” said Marler. “We fought hard and the course is in unbelievable shape and we’re proud to bring it home to B.C.”
Marler’s even par 72 and Choi’s 1-over 73 counted towards the team’s total on Thursday, with Ivy’s even par 72 and Marler’s 4-over 76 counting on Wednesday.
Team Ontario finished as runner-up at 25-over and was represented by Mary-Ann Hayward of St. Thomas, Ont., Kiley Rodrigues of Kingston, Ont. and Jessie Mercer of Kingston, Ont. Team Quebec rounded out the top three at 28-over and was represented by Gabrielle Davidson of Dorval, Que., Marie-Andree Ouimet of Hawkesbury, Ont. and Suzanne Ricard of Montreal, Que.
Lauren Greenlief continues to distance herself from the field following a 6-under 66 on Thursday to put her at 13-under for the tournament and holds a seven shot lead going into Friday’s final round.
Greenlief of Oakton, Va. carded seven birdies, three coming over her final four holes including back-to-back on nos. 17 and 18, to end strongly.
“I got the ball in play, hit some good shots and rolled the putter really well,” said Greenlief as she left the scorer’s tent.
The humidity picked up as the day went on but Greenlief added she is familiar with this weather as it’s quite similar to her home state of Virginia, while perhaps a bit cooler.
When Greenlief walks to the tee on Friday, she will do so with a healthy lead but not much will change for her in the lead up.
“I will go through my process in the same way, do the same warm up that I do every day, same stretching and mobility routine in the morning and just try to get off to a good start and just play golf,” she said as she pursues her second Canadian Women’s Mid-Amateur title.
Taya Battistella of Bellingham, Wash. finished with a second consecutive round of 3-under 69 to remain second in the Mid-Amateur division, seven back of Greenlief and leads the Mid-Master division by two shots over Connor Macon of Charlotte, N.C.
Canadian Golf Hall of Famer, Mary-Ann Hayward recorded the second ace of the tournament on Thursday, carding a 1 at the 142 yard second hole.
Three notable exemptions are up for grabs for the winner of the Canadian Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship, including entry into the 2026 U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship at Montclair Golf Club in West Orange, N.J. from August 29 – September 3, as well as a spot in the field for the 2027 Canadian Women’s Amateur Championship and 2027 Canadian Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship, both presented by BDO.
The field of 87 players features female golfers (aged 25-and-over as of August 5, 2026), with a handicap index of 12.0 or less. Those aged 40-and-over as of August 5, 2026, also compete in the Mid-Master division. Following Thursday’s second round the field has now been cut to the low 70 players, based off the Mid-Amateur division.
