BALLY HALY GOLF COURSE, ST. JOHN’S, NEWFOUNDLAND, August 19, 2025 – Story by Grace Bell - Team BC finds themselves atop the leaderboard after two rounds of competition at the 2025 Canada Summer Games.
Battling tough conditions again in Round 2—including wind gusts up to 60 km/h—Team BC stayed consistent, combining steady play with standout performances. Alex Zhang of Richmond, BC followed up his opening 69 with a 76 to remain in the lead at +1 overall. Christina Lake’s Austin Krahn surged into second place with a 73 to sit just two shots behind his teammate.
On the women’s side, Vancouver’s Elaine Liu carded a 77 (+5), moving into a tie for fourth overall at +12. Teammate Jenny Kwon sits in seventh place after an 82.
“The wind definitely played a factor today for everyone,” said Team BC Coach Conner Kozak. “We were able to play solid, steady golf and we were rewarded with moving up the leaderboards.”
“The wind added chaos for everyone, so being able to manage the elements and find a way around the golf course was the only way anyone could make any moves,” Jenny Kwon added. “Our team is so solid that even though I didn’t play my best, I knew I could rely on the other three members of the team to help.”
Team BC now holds a three-stroke advantage over Team Ontario heading into the final two rounds. With medal hopes building, the squad looks to follow in the footsteps of the 2022 team that won gold in Niagara.
