ST. JOHN’S, N.L., August 23, 2025 • Story summary from Mario Russo / Golf Canada— Team British Columbia returned to the top of the Canada Summer Games podium Friday as Christina Lake’s Austin Krahn fired a historic final-round 65 to clinch both the individual gold medal and team gold at Bally Haly Country Club.
The 18-year-old member of the Team Canada – NextGen program closed with seven birdies and an eagle to card the lowest single-round score ever recorded by a male golfer at the Canada Summer Games, powering B.C. to its fourth team gold in the past five Games.
“It means so much more because I’m not playing for myself, I’m playing for my team as well,” said Krahn. “I’m winning for British Columbia as a team and I’m bringing up the medal count for all of British Columbia.”
Krahn’s opening-hole eagle immediately vaulted him to the top of the leaderboard on Friday, and he continued his charge with birdies at holes 2, 4, and 6 to make the turn in 5-under 31. Down the stretch, he rolled in birdies on 12, 13, 17, and 18 to post 34 on the back nine, completing his bogey-free round of 65 (-7).
His four-day totals were 74-73-72-65—284 (-4), finishing three shots ahead of the field.
Krahn’s gold medal hopes were bolstered by a bittersweet, dramatic turn after teammate Alex Zhang of Richmond, B.C., who led through 36 holes with rounds of 69 and 73, was disqualified from individual contention for signing an incorrect scorecard after Round Two. Krahn had trailed Zhang by one stroke entering Thursday’s round.
In the Individual Female competition, Leonie Tavares of Saint-Jérôme, Quebec took top honours with rounds of 74-76-72-77 for a total of 299. Evelyn Ma of Markham, Ont., edged Yeeun (Jenny) Kwon of Vancouver, B.C., in a playoff for the silver medal after both finished regulation tied at 300.
This year’s Games also marked a milestone for Yukon, as Alayna May Mortimer and Sloane Tarapaski became the first female golfers from the territory to compete in golf at the Canada Summer Games.
With Krahn’s heroics and strong team support, Team BC edged out Team Quebec and Team Ontario for the team medals, continuing their legacy as a powerhouse in national junior golf competition.
