NORTH VANCOUVER, B.C., August 15, 2025 (compiled from Golf Canada and Seymour Golf Club sources) — One of Canada’s premier amateur tournaments, the Canadian Men’s Mid-Amateur Championship, returns to British Columbia from August 18-22 at the celebrated Seymour Golf & Country Club in North Vancouver.

First contested in 1987, the Canadian Mid-Amateur Championship has been a proving ground for elite amateurs aged 25 and over. Originally known as the RCGA Pre-Seniors Championship, the event was renamed in 1989 and includes both Mid-Amateur (25+) and Mid-Master (40+) divisions. Over the years, it has showcased some of the country's top talents, including Quebec's Graham Cooke and Ontario's Stu Hamilton, who collectively claimed 11 of the first 20 titles. More recently, Victoria's Kevin Carrigan also posted back-to-back wins in 2012 and 2013.

This year’s championship will unfold at Seymour Golf & Country Club, a private North Shore gem known not just for its challenging layout but also for its progressive values and environmental leadership. Founded in 1953, Seymour became the first golf club in Canada to register with the Audubon Society (1992), and the first in the Lower Mainland to eliminate gender-specific membership categories (1996). The 6,531-yard, par-71 course winds through towering forest, integrating natural features and wildlife habitats into the golfing experience. Seymour previously co-hosted the 2022 Canadian Men’s Amateur and the 2014 BC Amateur Championship.

On Monday, August 18, competitors will begin the week with a practice round and player reception. Championship play follows on Tuesday and continues through Friday. The tournament follows a 72-hole stroke play format with cuts after 36 holes. Players compete simultaneously for both individual and inter-provincial team honours, including the R. Bruce Forbes Trophy awarded to the top province after two rounds.

The Mid-Am draws top golfers from across the country, including many with national and international experience. Last year’s Mid-Amateur champion Cam Burke is expected to return, while B.C.’s Brooks Lancaster and Gary Pike made strong showings in 2024—placing 6th and 3rd respectively in their divisions.
