Rising Canadian Stars Like Lauren Kim (Above) Join Henderson, Grewal in 2025 CPKC Women’s Open

MISSISSAUGA, AUGUST 6, 2025 (excerpted from Golf Canada) - Golf Canada and Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC) have announced 13 players receiving exemptions into the 51st CPKC Women’s Open, set for August 20–24 at Mississaugua Golf and Country Club in Mississauga, Ont.

The list includes nine members of Team Canada who will join Brooke Henderson, Savannah Grewal, Alena Sharp, and Maude-Aimée Leblanc in a strong 13-player Canadian contingent.

Among the headliners is 15-year-old Aphrodite Deng of Calgary, Alta., the reigning U.S. Girls’ Junior Champion and World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) No. 22. Deng, who also captured the 2025 Junior Invitational at Sage Valley and the Mizuho Americas Open earlier this year, will make her CPKC Women’s Open debut. Surrey, B.C.’s Lauren Kim, WAGR No. 17, returns for her third straight appearance following a standout sophomore season at the University of Texas.

Other Canadian exemptions include Vancouver’s Anna Huang, a Ladies European Tour rookie; Etobicoke’s Vanessa Borovilos, who set a stroke-play scoring record at the U.S. Women’s Amateur; and first-time LPGA Tour starters Clara Ding of White Rock, B.C., and Shauna Liu of Maple, Ont., who earned their spots through the She Plays Golf Championship Series.

Tillie Claggett of Calgary and Oakville’s Katie Cranston, the series Order of Merit winner, will also tee it up, joined by Canadian Women’s Amateur champion Michelle Xing of Richmond Hill, Ont.

The field also welcomes notable past champions and rising international talent. Spanish amateur standout Carla Bernat Escuder, winner of the 2025 Augusta National Women’s Amateur, will make her professional debut. Anna Davis of California, low amateur in both her previous CPKC Women’s Open starts, returns for her third appearance. South Korea’s Soomin Oh, WAGR No. 12 and the 2024 World Junior Girls champion, also enters as an exemption.

“We are very proud to add these 13 incredibly talented players into our field for the 51st playing of Canada’s National Women’s Open Championship,” said Claire Welsh, Tournament Director, CPKC Women’s Open, in an interview with Golf Canada. “Our field is shaping up to be one of the strongest in recent years.”

Four more tournament spots will be decided at the August 18 qualifier at Credit Valley Golf and Country Club. This year’s CPKC Has Heart program will benefit MacKids, aiming to raise more than $2.8 million for pediatric cardiac care, with Trillium Health Partners named as community charity partner.
