KAMLOOPS, August 7, 2025 (excerpted from Castanet Kamloops) – Prince George’s Randall Mackus was one of many inspiring athletes at the 2025 Canadian All Abilities Championship, held August 4–7 at The Dunes in Kamloops. The 62-year-old, who lost his left arm to nerve cancer in the 1990s, told Castanet Kamloops reporter Michael Potestio in an excellent interview you can find HERE “Golf helped with the process (of dealing with the loss)... you don’t lay down and die. Here I am, 29 years later, I’m golfing.”

This was Mackus’s third appearance at the national event, which featured 50 players with neurological, intellectual, sensory, and physical impairments. The 54-hole championship included Gross Stroke Play and Net Stableford divisions for both men and women.

In the Men’s Net Stableford division, Mackus delivered the best B.C. result, finishing second with 108 points (30-41-37), just four behind champion Kelly Masson of Alberta.

Mackus epitomizes what this Championship is all about and he recognizes how important the support he receives actually is. In a Facebook post, he acknowledged that saying, "I am once again very grateful and thankful for the opportunity and support that I have received in my own community and beyond."

Despite the challenge of playing left-handed with his right arm, he called the opportunity to compete in the tournament a rewarding test of resilience and progress. “You just got to keep going."
