FORT ST. JOHN, July 18, 2025 (excerpted from EnergeticCity.ca and Fort St. John Links website and Facebook page) — After narrowly escaping damage from the Fish Creek wildfire in early May, Fort St. John Links is once again thriving—reopening its fairways and hosting one of its most meaningful events of the season.

On May 2, just hours after receiving the all-clear, the course reopened at 3:00 p.m., with a temporary closure on Hole 8 to allow firefighters continued access. “Words cannot describe our gratitude for our amazing firefighters who went above and beyond today,” stated the club in a post on its Facebook page. “Despite losing a lot of trees, we currently have minimal damage on the golf course.”

Hole 9 was adapted to accommodate play while cleanup continued. The club also acknowledged Save-On-Foods for supplying food and drinks to the emergency crews and thanked the community for its overwhelming support.

Just weeks later, Fort St. John Links hosted the 24th annual Special Olympics Golf Tournament on June 21. The best-ball fundraiser included dinner, a silent auction, and on-course contests like long drive and putting. It remains the largest annual fundraiser for Special Olympics Fort St. John.

“This event makes such a difference for our athletes,” organizers shared via Facebook. “The support from the community and Fort St. John Links is truly heartwarming.”

The rapid reopening and success of the tournament underscore the club’s vital role in the northern B.C. community—as a place not only for recreation, but for resilience and inclusion.
