KAMLOOPS, August 7, 2025 (excerpted from Golf Canada and Golf Genius sources) – The Dunes at Kamloops provided a challenging and picturesque backdrop for the fifth playing of the Canadian All Abilities Championship, presented by BDO, which wrapped up Thursday after 54 holes of spirited competition.
“The Dunes at Kamloops was very pleased to be chosen as the host site... The course is in excellent condition...” said Bill Bilton, Owner and Head Professional, ahead of the tournament. “Players will be challenged with true U.K. links style fairways, rolling hills and natural fescue.”
Now in its fifth year, the Canadian All Abilities Championship continues to promote inclusivity for players with intellectual, neurological, sensory, and physical impairments. This year’s event expanded again to 54 holes with a field of 50 players.
While Ontario-based players once again claimed top honours — with Natasha Stasiuk capturing her fifth straight Women’s Gross Stroke Play title and Josh Williams earning his first Men’s Gross title — several British Columbians made strong showings on their home turf. In total, B.C. golfers accounted for 20% of the top-10 finishers across divisions.
Chilliwack’s Dustin Boydell posted rounds of 72-73-82 to finish sixth in Men’s Gross Stroke Play at +11. Boydell’s opening two rounds were particularly strong, highlighted by back-to-back 36s on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Craig Dowling of Vancouver finished T8 at +16 (76-78-78), showing consistency throughout all three days, while Victoria’s Walter van der Rijst surged with a final-round 74 to place 11th overall (+20).
In the Men’s Net Stableford division, Prince George’s Randall Mackus delivered the best B.C. result, finishing second with 108 points (30-41-37), just four behind champion Kelly Masson of Alberta. Boydell, Dowling, and van der Rijst also tied for eighth in Stableford scoring with 100 points apiece.
Mackus epitomizes what this Championship is all about. The 62-year-old from Prince George who golfs one-handed after losing his left arm to nerve cancer, was competing in his third Canadian All Abilities Championship. Taking up the game for therapy nearly 30 years ago, Mackus said in a great interview by Castanets' reporter Michael Potestio that golf helped him keep going. Despite the challenge of playing left-handed with his right arm, he impressed in the Net Stableford division, scoring on all but one hole in his final round. “You just got to keep going,” he said. Mackus finished third overall, calling the 54-hole event a rewarding test of resilience and progress.
