Duncan’s Callum Davison survives first stage of PGA TOUR Q-school; Four British Columbians set to tee it up at LPGA Tour Q-school; Minni-Morrow win B.C. Match Play Championship
There was only one way Stuart Macdonald was going to leave the Korn Ferry Tour Championship with one of the 20 2026 PGA TOUR cards that were handed out following the season-ending event. The Vancouver native needed nothing less than a win and Macdonald delivered a spirited effort. He shared the lead through two rounds and was only three back heading into the final round at The Pete Dye Course at French Lick Resort in Indiana.
It turned out to be too tall a mountain to climb for Macdonald, who entered the event 50th on the points list. He closed with a one-under 71 in Sunday’s final round that left him tied for sixth at eight-under par, six shots behind winner Chandler Blanchett of Atlantic Beach, Fla.
Macdonald did accomplish one goal that leaves him with a final opportunity to play his way onto the PGA TOUR. He needed to remain inside the top 50 to earn an exemption into the final stage of PGA TOUR qualifying school, where five PGA TOUR cards will be handed out. Macdonald’s top 10 in Indiana moved him up to 43rd on the points list.
The final stage of Q-school goes Dec. 11-14 at TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla. That event will be relatively stress-free as Macdonald has locked up his full status on the 2026 Korn Ferry Tour. He will head to Florida knowing he has a place to play in 2026, but obviously will be playing his heart out to try and earn one of those five cards to golf’s promised land.
Macdonald’s 2025 season on the Korn Ferry Tour was highlighted by a second-place finish in May at the Tulum Championship at PGA Riviera Maya, where he lost in the playoff. He earned $48,125 for his T6 at the Tour Championship to push his season’s earnings to $245,543.
One Canadian did earn his PGA TOUR card at French Lick as Sudarshan Yellamarju finished the season 19th on the points list. The 24-year-old Mississauga resident won a Korn Ferry Tour event in the Bahamas early this year.
HIGHS AND LOWS: PGA TOUR qualifying school is a place where dreams come true for a select few and are shattered for many others. Two British Columbians experienced the highs and lows of Q-school last week. Duncan’s Callum Davison survived a first-stage site in Murrieta, Calif., by a single shot. Davison tied for 14th with a 72-hole score of eight-under par. His dream is alive.
Vernon’s Bryce Barker wasn’t so fortunate, At another first-stage site in Maricopa, Ariz., Barker missed by a single shot despite shooting a 72-hole score of 11-under par. He finished tied for 22nd and his hope of playing on either of the Korn Ferry or PGA TOURs in 2026 are done. Davison still has lots of work to do. He will play his second stage of Q-school Dec. 2-5 in the hope of advancing to the final stage.
Nine other first-stage sites are being contested over the next two weeks. British Columbians scheduled to play include Jeevan Sihota of Victoria, Chris Crisologo of Richmond and Jake Lane of Vancouver.
MONTEREY MATCH PLAY: Vancouver’s Nonie Marler and Shelly Stouffer of Nanoose Bay were both eliminated in the Round of 64 at the U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship at Monterey Peninsula Country Club in California. Marler advanced to match play after tying for 28th in the 36-hole stroke play portion of the event. Stouffer had to survive a 12-player-for-four-spots playoff to qualify for match play after tying for 61st in stroke play.
CLASS IN SESSION: The first stage of LPGA qualifying school goes this week, Oct. 15-18, at Plantation Country Club in Venice, Fla. Yeji Kwon of Port Coquitlam, Megan Osland of Kelowna, Mary Parsons of Delta and Jiyue Wu of Victoria are in the 198-player field. The Q-school finals go Dec. 4-8 at Magnolia Grove Golf Course in Mobile, Ala. Vancouver’s Leah John earned a spot in the Q-school finals by finishing inside the top 35 on the Epson Tour points list this year.
MATCH PLAY CHAMPS: The Delta duo of Jace Minni and John Morrow are B.C. Match Play champions. They won a tightly contested championship final at Vancouver Golf Club 1-up over the team of Zach Olson of Chilliwack and Daniel Campbell of Bellingham. Minni and Morrow never trailed in the final match, but never had more than a 1-up lead.
BEST IN WEST: Nine teams, including squads from UBC, UBC-Okanagan, the University of Victoria and the University of the Fraser Valley, will compete at the annual Canada West Golf Championships next week, Oct. 20-21, at Chilliwack Golf Club. UBC-Okanagan won the men’s team title at last year’s Canada West tourney, while UBC took the women’s title. In addition to the four B.C. teams, the University of Regina, University of Manitoba, University of Lethbridge, University of Alberta and University of Calgary will also be competing at Chilliwack.
THIRD IN OREGON: Langley’s Erin Lee finished third at The Molly Collegiate Invitational at Trysting Tree Golf Course in Corvallis, Ore. Lee, who is in her third year at Long Beach State University, completed the 54-hole event at one-over par and finished four shots behind winner Darae Chung of the University of Oregon.
