More Ziemer's Notes: Kaylee Chung plays her way into Portland LPGA Tour event; Stouffer tees it up in Irish Senior Women’s Championship; Hadwin, Svensson in need of Fed Ex Cup points
A pair of British Columbians came close but missed out on earning exempt status at last week’s PGA Tour Americas qualifying school in Prince Edward Island.
That means Kimberley’s Jared du Toit and Chris Crisologo of Richmond will be on the outside looking in when the PGA Tour Americas circuit begins its North American swing with this week’s Explore NB Open in Fredericton...
The top 11 players at the Q-school in Woodstock, PEI earned exempt status and it took a 72-hole score of four-under or better to graduate. Du Toit missed by a single shot, finishing in a tie for 12th spot at three-under.
Crisologo was two shots shy of the magic number and tied for 15th. They both received conditional status, but that is unlikely to get them into any events early in the season. Du Toit is listed as the seventh alternate in the New Brunswick season-opener and is entered in the event’s Monday open qualifier.
Coquitlam’s A.J. Ewart is the lone British Columbian currently fully exempt for the North American swing, which includes nine Canadian events and one tournament in Minnesota. Ewart, who won last year's Elk Ridge Saskatchewan Open, currently stands 13th on the Fortinet Cup points list after playing well in the tour’s six-event swing through South America and Mexico.
The top 10 players on the points list at the end of the season earn full Korn Ferry Tour status for 2026. Those cards will be handed out following the season-ending Fortinet Cup Championship, which goes Sept. 25-28 at Morgan Creek Golf Golf in Surrey.
POINTS PROBLEM: Abbotsford’s Adam Hadwin made the cut at the Rocket Classic, which is always a good thing. Unfortunately, his tie for 78th finish dropped him eight spots to 120th on the FedEx Cup points list. There’s plenty of PGA TOUR events left on the schedule, but Hadwin needs to move inside the top 100 to keep his exempt status for 2026. Surrey’s Adam Svensson is in an even more perilous position.
Svensson missed the cut in Detroit and dropped one spot to 168th on the points list. He and Hadwin are both in the field for this week’s John Deere Classic in Silvas, Ill. Abbotsford’s Nick Taylor has no such problem. He’s currently 17th on the points list and is expected to play in next week’s Genesis Scottish Open at the Renaissance Club in North Berwick. Taylor also has a spot in the Open Championship the following week at Royal Portrush Golf Club in Northern Ireland.
LPGA EXEMPTION: Vancouver’s Kaylee Chung received more than a nice trophy when she won last week’s Les Schwab Amateur Open at Columbia Edgewater Country Club in Portland. The win, which came after a two-hole playoff, earned Chung an exemption into the LPGA Tour’s Standard Portland Classic in mid-August. Chung won the playoff over Alison Takamiya and Kiera Romero after all three players recorded five-under 67s. Chung has committed to play her collegiate golf at San Diego State University beginning in the fall of 2026.
ACROSS THE POND: Six-time B.C. Senior Women’s champion Shelly Stouffer of Nanoose Bay is in the field for this week’s playing of the Irish Senior Women’s Amateur Championship at Kinsale Golf Club in Ballyregan. Stouffer will also be playing in the British Senior Women’s Amateur, which goes July 8-11 at Walton Heath Golf Club in England.
TEAM CANADA: Christina Lake’s Austin Krahn, the reigning B.C. Junior Boys champion, got some international experience playing for Canada at last week’s Toyota Junior World Cup. The Canadian team of Krahn, Jager Pain of Woodbridge, Ont., and Charlie Gillespie of Calgary finished in a three-way tie for seventh spot in the 12-team competition. Krahn tied for 28th in the individual competition. The Canadian girls team of Shauna Liu of Maple, Ont., Michelle Xing of Richmond Hill, Ont., and Eileen Park of Red Deer, Alta., finished fourth.
TITLE DEFENCE: Victoria’s Jeevan Sihota will defend his title at this week’s Mickelson National Invitational in suburban Calgary. Other British Columbians in the field include Jake Lane of Fort St. John, Lawren Rowe of Squamish, Jared du Toit of Kimberley, Ilirian Zalli of Vancouver, Cooper Humphreys of Kelowna and Gavyn Knight of Parksville.
GIRLS AT GORGE: A new champion will be crowned at this week’s B.C. Junior Girls Championship at Gorge Vale Golf Club in Victoria. Langley’s Amy Lee, who won last year’s championship at Gallagher’s Canyon in Kelowna by 18 shots, is not defending her title. Lee did successfully defend her title at last week’s B.C. Women’s Amateur Championship at Victoria Golf Club.
JACKSON HONOURED: Longtime rules official Dale Jackson of Victoria received his Distinguished Service Award from British Columbia Golf at a dinner held last week during the B.C. Women’s Amateur Championship at Victoria Golf Club. The dinner came 20 years after Jackson, a longtime Royal Colwood member and former Golf Canada vice president, worked his first event for British Columbia Golf at the 2005 B.C. Women’s Amateur Championship.
THREE’S COMPANY: Doug Morgan of Richmond Country Club won his third PGA of BC Seniors Championship and Jaya Rampuri of Riverway Golf Course is the new PGA of BC Women’s champion. Both 36-hole competitions were played at Cordova Bay Golf Course in Victoria. Morgan fired rounds of 69 and 70 and his three-under total was two shots better than runner-up Bryn Parry of Seymour Creek Golf Centre in North Vancouver. Rampuri shot rounds of 72 and 70 to finish at even-par, three shots ahead of Christine Wong of Savage Creek Golf Course.
TOP 10: Kelowna’s Megan Osland followed up her win the previous week with a tie for eighth finish at the OSF Healthcare Children’s Hospital of Illinois Championship on the Annika Women’s All Pro Tour. Osland, who earned $2,617, remains third on the tour’s points list this season. On the Epson Tour, Delta’s Mary Parsons tied for 22nd at the Otter Creek Championship in Columbus, Ind., and made $2,620. Parsons had seven straight birdies in her second-round 66. Vancouver’s Leah John tied for 64th and made $802. On the LET Tour, Vancouver’s Anna Huang tied for 12th at the Amundi German Masters in Hamburg and earned 5,362 Euros.
