More than 70 courses across British Columbia are taking part in this year's Take a Kid to the Course week, joining over 500 facilities nationally in opening their fairways to young golfers free of charge.

The program is simple: from July 6 to 12, children play free when accompanied by a paying adult at any participating facility (conditions vary by course, so be sure to check the details).

The breadth of participation in BC this year is fantastic with courses from all over the province jumping on board, including Cultus Lake Golf Club in the Fraser Valley, Nanaimo Golf Club, Black Mountain Golf Club in Kelowna, Wildstone Golf Course in Cranbrook, Quesnel Golf Club, and Tumbler Ridge Golf & Country Club. That's a fraction of the full roster — the interactive map at kidsgolffree.ca lets you search for what's available near you.

There are also two contests running alongside the event. An Instagram giveaway on @kidsgolffree gives participants a chance to win a set of junior golf clubs valued at $600 — all you have to do is like, comment and you're entered. That contest closes July 5. A second contest runs through Take a Kid to the Course week itself: snap a photo on the course with your junior golfer and submit it here for a shot at one of four premium junior club sets, courtesy of The Toro Company. Entries close July 13.

Take a Kid to the Course is run by the National Golf Course Owners Association Canada and has been connecting families to the game for 25 years, introducing 388,000 young Canadians to golf along the way. The program is supported nationally by NFP, The Toro Company, Parkland Fuels and Moneris.

For BC Golf, the initiative reflects something central to our passion: building clear pathways that make the sport accessible at every age, stage and ability. Programs like this create the kind of first experiences that turn curious kids into lifelong participants. That matters. When a parent, grandparent or mentor puts a club in a young person's hands for the first time, they're doing more than filling a tee sheet. They're opening a door.
