DELTA, B.C. — June 24, 2026 - British Columbia Golf announced that Debbie Pyne, managing director of player development, will retire June 30, 2026. Over more than 20 years with BC Golf, Pyne helped shape the province's player development pathway at every level — from a child's first introduction to golf in an elementary school gym to the moment a young athlete pulls on a Team BC jacket for the first time. Along the way, she built a network of coaches, volunteers and families who shared her belief that creating opportunity was the point, and that results would follow.
Pyne served as executive director of the BC Ladies Golf Association from 2002 to 2004. She helped guide the amalgamation of the BCLGA's 20,000 members into the newly formed British Columbia Golf, advocating for gender equity and equal representation of women on the organization's inaugural board of directors.
At British Columbia Golf, Pyne created and managed Playground to Fairway, B.C.'s first school golf program, which introduced more than 80,000 schoolchildren to the fundamentals of the sport. It was one of many initiatives through which she worked to widen the base of who plays golf in British Columbia and strengthen the pathway from first contact with the game through to provincial representation.
Her work helped shape Team BC programming and the coaching, selection and support systems around athletes pursuing provincial, national and international competition. Between 2001 and 2025, British Columbia's golfers captured 49 national interprovincial team titles and 40 national individual championships. They earned 13 gold medals at the Canada Summer Games between 2009 and 2025 — the most of any province.
In 2022, five of the six players named to Team Canada 1 and Team Canada 2 for the World Junior Girls Championship were from British Columbia. Those results belong to the athletes who earned them, the coaches who guided them and the families and volunteers who stood behind them. Pyne would be the first to say so. Her part was building the relationships and programs that gave all of those people a place to succeed — and she did it for more than two decades.

"It has truly been an honour to be part of the journey of so many athletes, coaches and volunteers who have given their best for golf in British Columbia," Pyne said. "My passion was always about creating opportunities — whether that was a junior at their first training camp or a coach stepping into a new role. So much of that work happened through our zones, where volunteers built the grassroots programs that gave young golfers their start. None of it would have been possible without the people who shared that vision."
Pyne's influence extended well beyond golf. A longstanding advocate for girls and women in sport, she served two terms on the Sport BC board of directors and spent 15 years with ProMOTION Plus (now BC Women & Sport), including a term as chair, and remains an advisory member. Her contributions have been recognized through the Sport BC President's Award, a Most Influential Women in Sport in Canada designation from CAAWS (now Canadian Women & Sport) and as an In Her Footsteps…Celebrating BC Women in Sport honouree.
"What stands out about Debbie's career is not just what she accomplished but how she went about it," said Shauna Wilton, Board Chair of British Columbia Golf. "She brought people together, she fought for equity and inclusion long before those were common conversations in sport, and she never lost sight of the fact that this work is about people. The board is grateful for everything she has given to this organization and to the game across British Columbia."

"What Debbie built at British Columbia Golf wasn't just a collection of programs — it was a foundation," said Matthew Steinbach, CEO of British Columbia Golf. "The coaching networks, the development pathways, the relationships across the province are all in place because of her work. Debbie leaves player development in a position of real strength, and with the promotion of Elizabeth Dunn to player development lead, we're confident in a seamless transition and opportunity to build on it."
Dunn, who assumed the role June 1, has been with the organization for 18 years, working closely alongside Pyne to deliver and grow Team BC and player development programming. Pyne will continue to support the transition through the end of June.
