Creston, B.C. — May 22, 2025- The Creston Golf Club was the centre of junior golf in the Kootenays as it hosted the 2025 high school zone playoffs on May 21–22, drawing 67 student golfers from 15 schools across southeastern B.C. The event marked one of the largest high school golf turnouts in the region in recent years.
Teams traveled from as far as Golden, Midway, Nakusp, and Trail to compete across A, AA, and AAA divisions, all vying for a chance to advance to the provincial championships in early June.
“Junior golf is certainly growing in the Kootenays, and it was amazing to be given the opportunity to showcase our beautiful course and community,” said event coordinator Melanie Lankhaar-Rejman, as quoted by the Creston Valley Advance.
The playoff followed a season of “play days” hosted throughout the region. While team competition was close across all three divisions, three schools rose to the top to earn provincial berths:
-
Golden Secondary (A Division) scored 361 and advanced to provincials in Kelowna.
-
Selkirk Secondary from Kimberley (AA Division) posted 326 to qualify for Pemberton.
-
JL Crowe from Trail (AAA Division) led their division with a score of 357, securing a spot in Salmon Arm.
Local athletes also made an impact. Brant Storm of Kootenay River Secondary School (KRSS) shot a 74 to claim the lowest male score, while Ashlyn Rejman (Grade 10) of KRSS topped the girls’ division with an 86 and also recorded the longest drive among female competitors on hole #7.
