The 2026 Pacific Northwest Golf Association’s (PNGA) championship season begins this year with 60 of the top amateur golfers in the region squaring off in the 19th PNGA Lamey Cup, to be held April 27-29 at Victoria Golf Club in Victoria, B.C.

The Victoria Golf Club, founded in 1893, is the oldest 18-hole golf course in Canada in its original location, and second oldest in North America. Victoria Golf Club was recently ranked #13 in Canada in The Score Golf’s Top 100 ranking. Victoria Golf Club plays as a Par 70 will be a strong test for the field. The links-style layout features 5 holes nestled along the Strait of Juan de Fuca on the Pacific Ocean and sea views throughout the golf course.

The PNGA Lamey Cup was created in 2006 by past PNGA President Dr. Jack Lamey to continue the camaraderie and partnership of the six member associations now under the PNGA umbrella: Alaska Golf Association, British Columbia Golf, Idaho Golf Association, Montana State Golf Association, Oregon Golf Association and Washington Golf.

Dr. Lamey – a PNGA Hall-of-Famer who passed in December 2019 – is also the namesake of the event’s perpetual trophy.

The annual Ryder Cup-style team competition is held on a rotating basis throughout the region, with this year’s event being held in British Columbia and hosted by BC Golf.

With the recent addition of the Alaska Golf Association and Montana State Golf Association as member associations of the PNGA, the format for the PNGA Lamey Cup has been adjusted to accommodate six teams rather than the four teams who competed in previous years of this event.

Montana will have its own team, and Alaska will be represented through a newly created PNGA team, the roster of which can consist of up to five Alaska players, with the remainder of its roster being filled first by the host association and then from any of the remaining associations based on player accomplishments in the previous year.

“We are thrilled to host this year’s Lamey Cup at the historic Victoria Golf Club, one of the six founding clubs of the PNGA,” said Nate Schroeder, PNGA Sr. Director of Championships, “and to welcome in a team from the Montana State Golf Association as well as a team that represents all of the PNGA, including players from the Alaska Golf Association. This championship was the vision of PNGA Past-President Dr. Jack Lamey, who sought to unite the associations of the PNGA through competition, collaboration, and camaraderie, so as the MSGA and AGA became member associations, the PNGA championship committee knew it was important they be incorporated in the matches.

“At the same time, we felt it was equally important to preserve the spirit of the competition, so by reducing teams to 10 players we can maintain the three-round format, keep an equitable distribution of matches between associations, and expand the matches to include six teams. These expanded matches will continue honouring Dr. Lamey’s legacy by involving all PNGA member associations, aligning with his original vision when the matches began in 2006.”

The Last BC Team To Hold The Lamey Cup Was The Second of Back-to-Back Wins  In 2013-2014

Each of the six associations will have selected a 10-person team, consisting of six men and four women. The representation includes two mid-amateur men of 25 years of age or older, two men of 40 years or older (Master-40 category), two senior men of 55 years or older, two mid-amateur women of 25 years or older and two senior women of 50 years or older.

Formerly, the championship consisted of 48 players in four teams of 12. With the addition of the Montana State Golf Association team as well as that of the PNGA team to accommodate the Alaska Golf Association, rosters are built with two fewer men’s mid-amateur players than previously.

One of British Columbia's team members is Nanoose Bay's Shelly Stouffer, past winner of several provincial and national titles in BC and Canada, as well as the U.S. Senior Women's Amateur Champion in 2022.

Shelly had this to say about the event coming to her home province, "I’ve never played the Lamey Cup at home before, so I’m super excited to be able to do it at such an iconic golf club. Victoria Golf Club is going to be an amazing venue for these matches and I’m looking forward to representing BC along with my teammates. It will be great to welcome all the competitors to Victoria Golf Club, the views will be stunning, and the competition is always a great event to kickoff my competitive season."

The last time the Lamey Cup was hosted at Victoria Golf Club was in 2007 with the team from Oregon winning the title. BC's last victory came as the 2nd half of back-to-back titles in 2013 and 2014.

The current president of each association will serve as the captain of their respective teams. Shauna Wilton will captain the host BC Golf team; Kevin Chang will captain the Washington Golf team; Abby Black will captain the Idaho Golf Association team; Travis Schoen will captain the Oregon Golf Association team; and Ron Ramsbacher will captain the inaugural MSGA team. Michael Cook, president of the PNGA, will serve as Team PNGA’s captain.

The two-day competition includes four-ball and foursome matches on the first day, and singles matches on the second and final day. Each association will play a total of 20 matches, comprised of one of each four-ball and foursome and two singles against each of its five opposing teams, across all player categories. With both men’s and women’s scores used to determine the team result, the PNGA Lamey Cup is the only known event of its kind in the U.S. and Canada.

The OGA is the defending champion of the PNGA Lamey Cup, having won as host last year at Oswego Lake Country Club. It was their ninth title overall in this event.

The PNGA Lamey Cup is one of 11 major, regional, amateur championships for men, women, juniors and seniors conducted annually by the PNGA throughout the Northwest.
