| In this edition of the British Columbia Golf newsletter we bring our 2026 BC Golf Championship season to a close with the wrap-ups of three provincial championships. The BC Senior Men's, BC U17 and BC U15/U13 championships were all concluded this past month at outstanding sites around the province. Along with that there are four more National Championship events that BC claimed titles in as our province has had a very good summer competing on the links. Those include the Canadian Junior, Canadian Women's Mid-Amateur and the 3rd edition of the Canadian U15 Championship. As well as the tournament stories we are pleased to announce that Past BC Golf President, Partick Kelly, who also served on the Golf Canada Board of Directors and is founder and chair of the BC Indigenous Golf Association, has been recognized with an appointment to The Order of British Columbia. It is the province's highest honour, bestowed for a lifetime spent doing the work of bringing together people, institutions, and communities that had not yet found their way to the same table. A very worthwhile program is getting underway as registration is open for the PGA of BC Teach-a-thon for Mental Health. Thirty-four PGA of BC professionals are volunteering their time to provide golf lessons in support of mental health programs and services. The program runs through the month of September. We also have news on the successful BC Summer Games from the golf perspective and information on the 2027 Team BC Squad selection camp in October, with registration open until September 9th. Finally, BC Golf is sad to report the passing of longtime Volunteer and Rules Official, Wayne May. Wayne has been a fixture at BC Golf Championship sites for many years and he will be missed by all of us. |
