Tristan Mandur recognized his own golf ability from an early age.

“I’d say around six or seven, that’s when I did my first tournament and I had a lot of fun and I really wanted to pursue it,’’ he said.

Currently in Grade 10 at Shawnigan Lake School, Mandur became a household name in golf this year for those who hadn’t heard of him already.

Shooting a 63 at Qualicum Beach was really the start of a banner year of achievements.

“It was one of those days where everything was going in,’’ Mandur said of that remarkable score. “It was the kind of moment you really want to remember. It helps your confidence for the next events to come up. It was awesome.’’

He went on to shoot another 63 — eight under par — at Arbutus Ridge Golf and Country Club recently.

In between, Mandur has been here, there and everywhere playing high level golf — from the U.S. Junior Amateur in Texas to Ontario where he came tied for 12th in the Canadian juniors and elevated to third in the Canadian juvenile event.

“Most of it is experience and how I need to practice to get to that higher level,’’ Mandur said of his rise to prominence.
