April 2014

RICHMOND, BC (British Columbia Golf) – Kelowna’s Rutland Elementary School played host to one of British Columbia Golf’s Playground to Fairway School Golf Coach Certification workshops on April 10-11.

The three-and-a-half-hour long workshop was a success, attracting six new participants to the program that included recreation leaders, golf professionals, city staff and volunteers.

British Columbia Golf Staff trained participants of the workshop on how to teach children (Kindergarten to grade seven) physical activities that translate into the fundamentals of golf.

In addition to the workshop, British Columbia Golf Staff conducted a full day of delivery at the school, an opportunity for kids to get active and have some fun while workshop participants were mentored on how to deliver the program.

Through hosting the program, golf professionals, recreation leaders and City of Kelowna staff have taken steps towards working together as a community to deliver golf programs not only at golf facilities, but at schools and recreation centres as well.

Equipment supplied by British Columbia Golf will remain in the area for all parties to share in hopes that they continue to run programs, introducing as many children as possible to the sport of golf.

The next training session will be hosted in Kamloops on May 28-29.
