Little Goes Low To Grab First-Round Lead At B.C. Senior Women’s Championship

She is one of British Columbia’s most accomplished players and Jackie Little served notice Tuesday that she has lots of competitive golf left in her. Little already has five B.C. Senior Women’s Championships and could be on her way to a sixth after opening this year’s tourney with a one-under par 71 at Crown Isle Golf Resort in Courtenay.
Little, who now lives in the Kootenay community of Procter, finished her round strong with an eagle on the par 5 15th hole and a birdie on the par 3 16th. She has a three-shot lead on Colleen Wheatley of Shawnigan Lake. Kim Evans of Vancouver is third after opening with a three-over 75.
Little’s impressive golfing resume has earned her spots in both the British Columbia Golf Hall of Fame and the Pacific Northwest Golf Association Hall of Fame. In addition to her five B.C. Senior titles, Little’s accomplishments include five B.C. Women’s Amateur titles, three B.C. Mid-Amateur Championships and three Canadian national titles. She also won two Alberta Women’s Amateur titles, two Alberta Junior Girls championships and three Alberta Senior Women’s crowns.
Defending champion Karen Pultz, who won last year’s title at Sunshine Coast Golf & Country Club, opened with a seven-over 79 and the Surrey resident is tied for seventh place heading into Wednesday’s second round of the 54-hole event.
Little, who plays out of Balfour Golf Club, also leads the Super-Senior category for players 60 and over. Zone 1 (Kootenays) and Zone 4 (Delta, Greater Vancouver, Squamish and Sunshine Coast) share the first-round lead of the 36-hole zone competition at 12-over par. Seventy-five players completed Tuesday’s first round.
