This Week’s Top 10 Rankings in Canada: B.C.’s Richdale Makes Biggest Jump

Samantha Richdale gained 24 spots in the world rankings after finishing in a tie for 45th at the LPGA Tour’s Yokohama Classic. It was her best LPGA result of the season in three tournaments. The result helped her moved up to No. 3 in the Canadian rankings.

Augusta James, who lost a spot in the Canadian rankings to Richdale, gained three spots in the world rankings after finishing in a tie for 11th at the Symetra Tour’s Self Regional Healthcare Foundation Women’s Health Classic in South Carolina. It was her fourth Top-15 result this season in five starts.

Jennifer Kirby gained 79 spots in the world rankings after finishing in a tie for 7th in South Carolina. Kirby’s best career finish on the development tour enabled the former Golf Canada National Team member to move up to No. 12 in the Canadian rankings.

Other Notable Results: No. 1 Brooke Henderson finished tied for 29th at LPGA Tour’s Yokohama Tire Classic, while No. 2 Alena Sharp finished tied for 22nd.

Peter Campbell made the biggest move, gaining 342 spots after finishing in a tie for 6th at the Latinoamérica Tour’s Honduras Open. The result was worth 1.20 world ranking points enabling the Nova Scotia-born golfer to move from 31st up to 26th in the Canadian rankings. It was his first points-paying result since a Canadian Tour event in August 2014 and his best pro finish since that tie for 2nd almost two years ago.

Other notable results: No. 1 Graham DeLaet finished in a tie for 77th at the PGA’s Wells Fargo Championship, while No. 3 Adam Hadwin finished in a tie for 61st. No. 2 David Hearn, No. 5 Nick Taylor and Team Canada Young Pro Squad member Mackenzie Hughes missed the cut at PGA’s Wells Fargo Championship. Corey Conners finished tied for 13th and David Rose tied for 30th at the PGA Tour Latinoamérica’s Honduras Open.

Taylor Kim took over the No. 2 ranking from Josée Doyon as the two Kent State teammates swapped places, while Naomi Ko slips behind Vanessa Ha after dropping 14 places in the world rankings.

Top-ranked Maddie Szeryk was the only one in the Top-10 to gain any ground in the world rankings, picking up four places to move up to No. 31. She finished in a tie for 12th at the NCAA Bryan Regional, maintaining her string of Top-20 results in each of her NCAA Regional appearances.

Biggest Move: Krysta Schaus of Fredericton, N.B., gained 175 spots in the world rankings after finishing in a tie for 42nd at the NCAA D2 Super Region 2 Championship.

Hugo Bernard picked up 216 spots in the world rankings after finishing fourth at the NCAA D2 Championship South/Southeast Regional. The result helped Saint Leo advance to the NCAA Championship for a second straight year. It was the fifth Top-5 finish in seven spring starts for the freshman from Quebec who jumped from No. 11 all the way up to No. 7 in the Canadian rankings.

Chris Crisologo finished in a tie for 16th at the NCAA Division 2 West/South Central Super Regional, but SFU won’t be advancing to the Championship after finishing 17th in the overall standings. It was a great season nonetheless for the No. 9-ranked amateur in Canada which included five Top-5 results and two wins.

Brad Curren gained 59 spots in the world rankings after finishing in a tie for second at the Sun Conference Championship, earning him All-Sun Conference team honours. The senior from Hammonds Plains, N.S., the result saw him make his Top-20 debut at No. 20 in the Canadian rankings.

Honourable mention to senior Nate Ollis of Victoria, B.C., and junior Evan Holmes of Calgary who tied for individual medalist honours at the NAIA AII Championships. Their play helped UBC earn an automatic berth into the NAIA National Championship later this month.

Freshman Kevin Gordon of Whitby, Ont., couldn’t have picked a better time to win his first collegiate title, capturing individual medalist honours at the Summit League Championship. Gordon equalled a team season best with a final round 68 and posted a career best total of 216 to become the first player from Nebraska Omaha to win a Division I tournament and qualify for the NCAA Regionals. He topped it off by being named Championship MVP and was selected to the All-Tournament Team.

Biggest move: Lawren Rowe climbed 917 spots after finishing in a tie for 3rd at the NAIA AII Championships. The second year player from Victoria, B.C., was coming off his first collegiate title of the season.
