Some of the best young golfers from the Western U.S., Mexico and Canada are teeing off in Cheyenne July 26-30.

For the first time ever, the Cheyenne Country Club is playing host to the Girls Junior America’s Cup (GJAC). The international golf tournament features 18 teams made up of four 14-17 year old girls.

The British Columbia team is represented by Shirin Anjarwalla, Mary Parsons, Tiegan Taylor and Natalie Chu. The U-17’s will be led by non-playing captain Pat Thompson.

BC has never captured gold, having won silver and bronze, and hopes to add the missing piece in Wyoming this year. British Columbia is a chartered member of the Girls Junior America’s Cup team and Christine Wong remains the only Canadian to win as low medallist.

Each team will play three rounds to determine a winner. The goal of the tournament is to get young women interested in golf and encourage them to be team players.
