Surrey's Svensson Picks Up Third Swingthought.com Win

Team Canada Young Pro Squad member Adam Svensson of Surrey, BC picked up his 3rd Swingthought.com Tour win in as many tries this past weekend  at the Milton Martin Honda Classic in Gainesville, Ga.

Svensson shot rounds of 66, 66, 67 and 67 to finish at 22-under par on the Chattahoochee Golf Club course to win by five shots, pocketing $20,000 US.

As Svensson told Vancouver Sun reporter Brad Zeimer, “Pretty much the only hiccup was that I had a double-bogey yesterday (Sunday) and the last hole of the tournament I three-putted from 30 feet, which was kind of a bummer,” Svensson said. “But I was so happy with the performance.”

Svensson’s next event will be May 28-31 at Point Grey Golf & Country Club for the $175,000 PC Financial Open, the season-opening event of the PGA Tour Canada circuit.

“It’s is going to be awesome,” Svensson said about his first pro event in Canada. “I have a lot of people coming out to watch me. To play my first PGA Tour Canada event at home is cool. I couldn’t be any happier about that.”

Point Grey also happens to be a course that Svensson knows quite well. “I played some Zone 3 events there,” he told Zeimer. “I played there probably 10 times so I know the course fairly well. You have to hit it pretty straight and it has decent length. It’s a good track to test your game. I haven’t played it in two years but it is a pretty strong golf course.”

Svensson does not have any status on PGA Tour Canada and will be playing at Point Grey on a sponsor’s exemption. He hopes to get some others as he attempts to play his way onto the Web.com Tour.
