Richmond Hill, Ont. (February 4, 2018) - The Canadian Junior Golf Association (CJGA) is pleased to announce the hiring of Cory Renfrew, a former Mackenzie-PGA TOUR Canada player from Victoria, B.C. as its new Tournament Director for the province of British Columbia.
"I'm incredibly excited to take on this new challenge as BC Tournament Director for the CJGA and continue to develop junior golf on the west coast". Said Renfrew when asked about joining the CJGA competitions team.
"Even though I began my competitive junior golf career quite late by today's standards, the CJGA was there to welcome me and provide an outstanding product that undoubtedly contributed to the experiences and successes I have enjoyed to this day".
"We could not be happier to add Cory to our staff and have him as the face of the CJGA in the province of British Columbia" said Brad Parkins, CJGA COO. "Cory's experiences as a player, from his junior days to the professionals, make him not only a valuable resource for our Association, but for our members, many of whom have the aspirations of doing what Cory did."
Renfrew is no stranger to the CJGA. He played in the CJGA program from 2003-2005 as a junior. He captained the Euro Junior Golf Cup team that capture the John Clarke Trophy in 2005 and then went on to compete at the University of Victoria (2006-2010), before turning professional in 2011.
In 2012 Cory earned status on the Mackenzie Tour-PGA TOUR Canada and went onto a breakthrough season, finishing 2nd in his first event at the Bayview Place Times Colonist Open and taking home his first professional win at the Syncrude Boreal Open, finishing 3rd overall on that seasons Order of Merit. Renfrew continued to play on Tour for three more seasons and earned some starts on the Web.com Tour before stepping back his playing at the end of 2016.
One of Cory's greatest highlights as a professional came during the Waste Management Phoenix Open, last week's PGA TOUR event in Scottsdale, AZ. After Monday qualifying to get into the field, he brought the raucous crowd at the famed par-3 16th hole to its feet with a chip in birdie from off the green.
We welcome Cory to the CJGA team and look forward to continued growth and opportunity for junior golfers in the province of British Columbia.
