Emily Leung And Clan Win GNAC Championships

COEUR D’ALENE, Idaho –With the help of individual champion Emily Leung, Simon Fraser defended its GNAC Women’s Golf Championships title, winning the event by 19 shots on Tuesday at Coeur d’Alene Resort Golf Course.
Leung carded two birdies on the final nine holes to secure the individual title with a score of 5-over-par 147 while the Clan ran away with the team title. Leung finished six shots ahead of teammate Kylie Jack, who took second place with an 11-over-par 153.
Leung shot rounds of 70 and 77 and led the tournament with six birdies to take the title. Jack had rounds of 76 and 77 and led the tournament with 25 pars.
Simon Fraser had two other players finish in the top 10 with Jaya Rampuri and Belinda Lin tying for sixth place at 16-over-par 158. For the second year in a row, the Clan reset the GNAC course record, outdoing last year’s effort by one stroke with a final score of 48-over-par 616.
Defending GNAC champion Michelle Waters from SFU finished 18th after shooting rounds of 84 and 82 for a 166 total.
Western Washington took second place with a 67-over-par 635 behind the effort of Jenn Paul, who finished in a tie for third place with a score of 12-over-par 154. Paul opened the day with a birdie and got within three shots of first place midway through the second round. Hannah Drake also finished in the top five for Western Washington with a score of 13-over-par 155 after carding birdies on the ninth and 17th holes on Tuesday.
Montana State Billings finished in a tie for third place with a 76-over-par 644. The Yellowjackets’ Kortney McNeil provided the tournament’s best second-round performance, carding a 2-over-par 73 to move up six places in the rankings and finish in a tie for third. Concordia finished in a tie for third place.
Saint Martin’s and Northwest Nazarene tied for fifth place to round out the scoring at 120-over-par 688.
