Chris Crisologo gets it.

There aren’t many people in this country more skilled with a golf club in their hands and a golf ball at their feet than Crisologo.

The SFU Clan senior star knows that it’s going to give him opportunities, like when he took part in the South American Amateur in Buenos Aires, Argentina, back in January.

Crisologo won the tournament. He also found the time to get out, to see the sights, to have an experience. The way he can plunk a golf ball down exactly where he wants from 220 yards away with the wind whipping and assorted foliage encroaching will take him places he may not normally visit. He wants to take advantage of that.

Recently, Kelowna's Gail Graham was inducted into the Canadian Golf Hall of Fame along with renowned course architect A.V. Macan. (See story by Brad Ziemer HERE).

The two will be formally introduced to the hall during the RBC Canadian Open week at Glen Abbey in July.

Prior to that date Graham has announced the inaugural Gail Graham & Friends Hall of Fame Pro-Am taking place Sunday, June 3 and Monday, June 4, 2018 at the Kelowna Golf & Country Club where her brother Rob Anderson is the Head Golf Professional. 

LPGA ‘Legends’ currently committed to the event are: Gail Graham, Lorie Kane, Elaine Crosby, Michelle McGann, Nancy Scranton and Patty Sheehan.

It is the intention of the Gail Graham & Friends Hall of Fame Pro-Am to direct ALL net proceeds to charity.

An army of volunteers descended on the Fairview Mountain Golf Course in Oliver on Wednesday to finish off cleanup efforts after a destructive mudslide struck more than two weeks ago.

General Manager Brian McDonald (who can be seen working with the volunteersin the centre of the accompanying picture using the red-handled rake ) said the mudslide occurred overnight on March 23. 

It spread at least 2,000 yards and covered five holes. “The damage was extensive,” McDonald said. “There was a lot of debris here. In the end it was over 3,000 cubic tonnes that had to be removed from the site.”

The Team Canada Development Squad Used A Late Push To Tie Mexico For Top Spot In The Toyota Junior Golf World Cup Qualifier Held At Bear Mountain Resort In Victoria - Image Credit Golf Canada

VICTORIA, B.C. – Team Canada’s Development Squad boys and girls teams both finished atop the leaderboards in Thursday’s qualifying event at Bear Mountain Golf Resort & Spa to secure a spot to play in the Toyota Junior Golf World Cup.

In the boys division, Canada traded shots with Mexico through the 54-hole event but found themselves trailing heading into the final stretch. A late push by the four-man Canadian squad saw the contingent force a tie for the lead after going 5 under collectively on the final three holes. The two teams netted out tied at 23 over par, each grabbing one of two qualifying spots available on the boys side.

The Vancouver Parks Board trio of golf courses have announced their plans to take part in the upcoming International Women's Golf Day on Tuesday, June 5th, 2018.

CORVALLIS, Ore. – Oregon State University Athletics is proud to announce Trevor Yu and Nicole Schroeder have been named April Scholar-Athletes of the Month.

Yu, a junior from Vancouver, B.C., has played in all nine tournaments this season and has a scoring average of 74.19. His best finish was 26th place at the Desert Mountain Collegiate and his best score was a 3-under 68 in the first round at the Alister MacKenzie Invitational.

OAKVILLE, ONT. (Golf Canada) – Golf Canada is pleased to announce its 2018 championship schedule which includes a record-30 amateur and professional competitions plus qualifiers hosted at golf facilities in communities across Canada.

The 2018 schedule is headlined by Golf Canada’s premier professional championships—the RBC Canadian Open from July 23-29 at Glen Abbey Golf Club in Oakville, Ont., and the CP Women’s Open at Wascana Country Club in Regina, Sask. from August 20-26.

The 2018 competition calendar includes eight National Amateur Championships, six Future Links, driven by Acura regional junior competitions and the World Junior Girls Championship.

Golf Canada will also host 11 qualifying events in 2018 including qualifiers for prestigious international competitions such as the Toyota Junior Golf World Cup and the U.S. Open (Local Qualifying), as well as the U.S. Amateur and U.S. Women’s Amateur.

VICTORIA, B.C. – The Toyota Junior Golf World Cup Qualifier makes its return to Canadian soil on Tuesday, with four nations competing for a spot in both the Boys and Girls divisions at Bear Mountain Golf Resort & Spa, Team Canada’s National Training Centre.

The 54-hole stroke play tournament is comprised of teams from host nation Canada, Mexico, Guatemala and Puerto Rico. The Boys division consists of four athletes per team, each submitting a cumulative total from the three lowest scores per round (omitting the highest score). The two lowest team scores after Thursday’s final round will qualify for the 2018 Toyota Junior Golf World Cup.

AUGUSTA, GA (April 4, 2018) - Fred Ridley, Chairman of Augusta National Golf Club and the Masters Tournament, announced today the establishment of the Augusta National Women’s Amateur Championship, which will be held annually the week prior to the Masters and will culminate with the final round taking place at Augusta National.

“Bobby Jones and Clifford Roberts left behind a legacy of always trying to contribute meaningfully to the game of golf,” Ridley said. “The Augusta National Women’s Amateur Championship embodies that principle, and we believe this event will have a significant and lasting impact on the future of the women’s game. The 54-hole, stroke play tournament will feature an international field of 72 players. Invitees will be determined by awarding winners of other recognized championships and using the Women’s World Amateur Golf Ranking.

In Memoriam - Joan Lawson

This past month brought with it the sad news of the passing of a very special member of the Women's Division, Honorary Life Member, Joan Lawson, in her 98th year.

Joan began golfing as a 15-year-old junior member of Uplands in 1935, just 13 years after Uplands was founded. Her first major win in a truly outstanding amateur golf career came just 3 years later in 1938 when she won the Empress Midwinter Tournament.

This was followed by a long list of wins, not the least of which was being our Ladies Club Champion 21 times and Runner Up 3 times between 1942 to 1978, a truly remarkable feat to remain in top competitive form over this span of 36 years.

A hiking date on Vancouver Island for two friends turned into a life-saving rescue from the edge of a frigid waterfall that earned Janson Chapman a bravery medal and a lifetime partner.

Chapman, a golf course greens keeper from Colwood, was one of 46 people honoured Wednesday with medals of service by Gov. Gen. Julie Payette during a ceremony at British Columbia's government house.

Twenty-two-year-old Chapman said he was on a date last March with Becca Covey near Gold River when she slipped on ice, fell about 15 metres and ended up clinging from a log at the edge of the Lower Myra Falls.

Coast-to-coast schedule features 13 events and increased prize money

TORONTO, ONTARIO, CANADA – The 2018 Mackenzie Tour – PGA TOUR Canada schedule was announced on Tuesday, featuring 13 official tournaments from May to September and a $25,000 increase for all tournament purses as players compete to make the next step on the path to the PGA TOUR.

The season will begin with the Freedom 55 Financial Open (May 28-June 3) at Point Grey Golf and Country Club in Vancouver, British Columbia, with purses of $200,000 (CA$) for all regular events and a $225,000 (CA$) purse for the season-ending Freedom 55 Financial Championship (Sept. 10-16) at Highland Country Club in London.

Richmond, BC - The 2017 Premier's Awards for Aboriginal Youth Excellence in Sport were presented in Richmond on Tuesday, March 20 to twelve outstanding Aboriginal youth athletes from British Columbia. Their athletic accomplishments are as extraordinary as their commitment to their community and future aspirations.

The awards were presented by the Honourable Melanie Mark, Minister of Advanced Education, Skills and Training, during a formal celebration held during the opening ceremonies of the Gathering Our Voices Youth Conference at the Sheraton Vancouver Airport hotel in Richmond, B.C.

Now that the governing bodies of golf have finalized the 'modernized' version of golf's rules, due to be brought into effect January 1, 2019, we thought we would bring to everyone's attention an article published in the Globe and Mail recently that harkens back to the original rules of the game from 1744.

Once upon a time, golf was played under a 13 rule format and although in many ways it was a much simpler game, it was also a far more difficult game, certainly at least when you take into account how often the initial laws essentially inferred that it was, 'tough luck old chap' when a number of unfortunate occurences took place.
