Golf Canada is proud to celebrate the 66 adoptions that occurred during Adopt a School Week thanks to the efforts of golf enthusiasts and industry partners across the country.

In total, the figure translates to an additional 7,920 students being introduced to the sport through the Future Links, driven by Acura Golf in Schools program. The coast-to-coast campaign was elevated by support from Canadian industry partners—the Provincial Associations, PGA of Canada, the National Golf Course Owners Association (NGCOA), Canadian Society of Club Managers and Canadian Golf Superintendents Association.

(Federal Way, Wash.) – Team WSGA mounted a comeback in today’s Singles matches to win the 14th Annual PNGA Cup, held this week at the Crosswater Club in Sunriver, Ore.

This is the third title for Team WSGA in the 14-year history of the matches, which is a Ryder Cup-style competition featuring the finest 48 amateur golfers among the four allied golf associations that comprise the Pacific Northwest Golf Association – the Idaho Golf Association, Oregon Golf Association, Washington State Golf Association, and British Columbia Golf.

(30 April 2019), St Andrews, Scotland and Liberty Corner, NJ, USA: Golf’s new World Handicap System (WHS), which is designed to bring the game of golf under a single set of Rules for handicapping and provide a more consistent measure of players’ ability between different regions of the world, remains on track for implementation starting in 2020.

Education has begun with events being held in Singapore, South Africa, Great Britain and Ireland, Japan, Argentina, Brazil, Continental Europe, Canada, the Caribbean and the USA.

A secure resource portal, accessible via whs.com, has also been launched to provide national associations with a library of materials that they can use to help support their own education efforts.

OTTAWA – On the second annual National Golf Day, the Canadian golf industry, represented by We Are Golf, is launching a national campaign to encourage Canadians to get involved in the sport. Industry leaders are meeting with Parliamentarians throughout the day, while golf stakeholders are working to spread the word in municipalities nationwide.

The 14th annual PNGA Cup is now underway at Crosswater GC in Sunriver, Oregon. British Columbia Golf is in competition with teams from the Idaho Golf Association, Oregon Golf Association and Washington State Golf Association.

The annual Ryder Cup-style competition is held on a rotating basis throughout the region, with this year’s event being held in Oregon and hosted by the Oregon Golf Association.

Each association has selected a 12-person team consisting of eight men and four women. The representation includes four mid-amateur men of 25 years of age or older, two men of 40 years or older, two senior men of 55 years or older, two mid-amateur women of 25 years or older and two senior women of 50 years or older.

The two-day competition includes four-ball and foursome matches the first day and singles matches on the second and final day. With three matches for each player, the championship allows each competitor to compete against players from each of the other associations. With both men’s and women’s scores used to determine the team result, it is the only known event of its kind in the U.S.

The Oregon Golf Association will be attempting to defend its title, having won the event for the 7th time last year. British Columbia Golf has won the competition on 3 occasions, in 2009, '13 and '14.

Federal Way, Wash. – The 2019 Pacific Northwest Golf Association’s (PNGA) championship season kicks off this week as 48 of the top amateur golfers in the region prepare to square off in the 14th PNGA Cup, to be held May 1-2 at the Crosswater Club in Sunriver, Ore.

The PNGA Cup was created in 2006 by past PNGA President Dr. Jack Lamey as a way of continuing the friendship and partnership of the region’s allied associations under the PNGA umbrella – British Columbia Golf, Idaho Golf Association, Oregon Golf Association and Washington State Golf Association.

The annual Ryder Cup-style competition is held on a rotating basis throughout the region, with this year’s event being held in Oregon and hosted by the Oregon Golf Association.

Golf has always been a big part of Tanelle Bolt’s life.

Her dad, Michael, was the longtime superintendent and assistant superintendent of Lethbridge Country Club, where Tanelle played junior golf and later worked on the grounds crew with her father. She loved the game and 15 years later nothing has changed, although there have been some very significant changes in Bolt’s life.

Nearly five years ago -- on Aug. 10, 2014 -- Bolt suffered a life-changing injury after free-jumping off a bridge in Port Renfrew on Vancouver Island. She fractured her T6 vertebrae and was left paralyzed from her chest down.

A Class 'A' PGA Professional who works out of Seymour Golf & Country Club in North Vancouver, Lavers is no stranger to working with young golfers and has all the credentials one could ask for in taking on this very important new role with BC Golf.

“It’s official. Golf is good for you.”

Those were the words of Dr. Roger Hawkes, who spoke to the Annual General Meeting of British Columbia Golf at Tsawwassen Springs Golf Club. Hawkes is executive director of Britain’s Golf and Health Project, which is supported by the World Golf Foundation. It aims to study the many and varied health and well-being benefits of golf.

While there has long been anecdotal evidence that golf has significant health benefits, Hawkes said the goal of the Golf and Health Project is to come up with properly evaluated evidence to support such claims.

Kris Jonasson, the longtime Chief Executive Officer of British Columbia Golf, knows from personal experience about the challenges of bringing more women into the game.

At British Columbia Golf’s Annual General Meeting at Tsawwassen Springs Golf Club, Jonasson told a story about his daughter, who is not a golfer, and his granddaughter, who is on her way to becoming one. “It’s an easy statement to make, it’s not an easy thing to do,” Jonasson said of the challenge of welcoming more women to golf.

“In certain ways, I failed as a father because I didn’t get my daughter involved in golf. I am doing a much better job with my grandchildren. And I can say with a whole lot of pride I am doing a very good job with my granddaughter, who is 12, and likes to go out and play with me.”

The R&A unveiled a new Women in Golf Charter on May 29th, 2018 in London as part of the organization’s global drive to increase the number of women and girls participating in golf and to encourage more opportunities for women to work within the golf industry.

Adoption of the Charter requires national associations and other golf bodies to build on and develop initiatives which will focus on encouraging more women and girls to play golf and stay within the sport as members of clubs, while also empowering women to enjoy successful careers working within the golf industry.
